STAGE 8: QUARYAT-OUENI - Vigouroux always on the right trail
Today´s special was not very difficult; the time difference between the leaders was very small. Eric and Alexandre finished 8' 57'' of the leader, classified in 8th position.
“Today, it was us who opened the road for the others. The enormous dust cloud we left behind was used as reference by the other teams”, explained Eric. “In the middle of the stage, the BMW of Terranova and Novitskiy, got ahead of us… but I think the rolled way too fast on the stones. A few kilometers further, they were stopped with a burst tired each one… A little later, Schlesser passed us very fast, then its co-driver did a little navigation mistake. We passed by again in front of the buggy, we cross the line first, but with the time we made, we are only eighth… It is logical and a little frustrating at the same time.”
On the mechanics ´side, the Trophy Truck did not show any problem. Eric admits however that he saved his gear box. “We start to come short of a certain number of parts with all the things we change after each stage, so we must save vital parts. Another thing is that until now, we haven´t had the least puncture, like all of our adversaries. Thank you in Toyo for its excellent products! »
After the special stage, the competitors crossed the border between Libya and Tunisia. The bivouac was installed shortly after the border post. The ninth stage, of Thursday April 30th, will be interesting. The 275 km special are very varied, with an alternation of tracks in canyons, small ergs, and some dunes right before the arrival located at Leclerc Column, in the famous oasis of Ksar Ghilane.
